We already know by now how popular Nintendo’s most recent console, the Switch has been, ever since it was released back in March 2017. Unlike other gaming consoles, the Switch isn’t releasing as many games as them, and one very likely reason behind this is because of the partnerships Nintendo has with gaming industries, and that most games released on the Switch are developed by Nintendo themselves.
Nevertheless, the Switch has released highly successful games to date, and this includes titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, ARMS, and even the Nintendo Switch port of the award-winning sandbox game, Minecraft. The console may be slow in releasing games, but they are making it sure that every game is able to make an impact; think of it as the Daniel Day-Lewis of video games.
On this page, we have gathered some of the best and most anticipated games that are coming on the Nintendo Switch, and while it wasn’t easy to come up with this list, considering that most of their upcoming games are very highly anticipated, we looked at all angles just to be able to get down to only 15 games. Who knows? We might make another list of more upcoming games for the Switch in the near future. For the games that have already been released, here is a list of the ten best games for the Nintendo Switch from March to August 2017.
Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon, or The Land Without Light 2: The Bride of the New Moon when translated literally from the Japanese romanization of the title is developed by Gust and published by Koei Tecmo. It is planned for release on the second half of October 2017. The game is a sequel to Nights of Azure, which was initially released in Japan last October 1, 2015, re-released in the United States and Europe in 2016 and then as a port for Windows in early 2017.
Similar to its predecessor, the game plays as a fantasy action RPG with a fast-paced battle system, including a new Servan type which allows players to help each other during battles and also bonuses at post-launches. There is also a battle party system on this game and some leveling up of characters. Players will be exploring dungeons in this game, fighting alongside allies, and taking advantage of abilities of friendlies to overcome tough situations and be able to progress through the game.
The story of the game takes place in a world where humans are left with only sunlight as their ally, and that creatures known as “Fiends” come out during the dark hours. This is the result of the battle with Nightlord, who is a very powerful demon king responsible for bringing out the night. As the agent, Aluche, you must come up with a party of four members and set off to look for the Moon Queen, and stop her for good.
One of the highly-acclaimed dance rhythm games on consoles is about to be released their 9th entry to their Just Dance franchise sometime at the end of October 2017. Just Dance 2018 is the latest installment developed and published by Ubisoft for the PS3 and PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, Nintendo Wii, Wii U, and Switch. Speaking of Xbox One, here is a list of some of the most awaited games for the Xbox One console.
Just like its predecessors, the game involves a player to actually copy the movements and dance steps of the on-screen dancer in mirror image. For some consoles, this would require the use of motion controllers for the system to detect your movements, while some consoles have a special sensor that specializes in detecting body heat and movements.
There are over 40 built-in songs that you can choose from, which are mostly modern, with a few oldies that include “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini”, “Another One Bites The Dust”, and “Footloose”, and the game even has an overture composed by the French composer, George Bizet, in 1875 called “Carmen”. However, for the Nintendo Switch version, there will already be up to 300 songs at launch with other additional content available.
As the next entry to the Super Mario game series, Super Mario Odyssey is an upcoming 3D platform video game developed and published by Nintendo exclusively for the Nintendo Switch console. This game is being scheduled for release worldwide on October 27, 2017, and marks the return of our favorite Italian plumber, Mario. This platformer features an open-world, exploration-based gameplay which was previously used in Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64) and Super Mario Sunshine (Nintendo GameCube).
Once again, the player takes control of Mario as he travels from one world to another in order to save Princess Peach, and stop Bowser from marrying her. On this game, Mario will be using the “Odyssey”, which is his ship that resembles the shape of his hat to travel across different worlds known as “Kingdoms”. As mentioned earlier, the game brings back the open-world mechanics that was first introduced in Super Mario 64, and Mario needs to accomplish objectives and collect items from each Kingdom known as “Power Moons” to power up the Odyssey and gain access to more Kingdoms.
Just like previous Mario games, in which the titular character is able to perform a variety of moves such as triple jumping to wall running, Mario can now use his cap as a weapon and throw it to attack enemies. The reason behind this is that Mario’s cap is being possessed by a spirit named Cappy, and aside from simply using it as a weapon, Cappy can also be used as a temporary platform, as well as for “capturing” enemies and allow Mario to take over their bodies temporarily. What’s even more unique about this game is that it allows cooperative play, with the second player taking control of Cappy to take down enemies independently.
Sonic Forces is the upcoming 3D platformer video game developed by Sonic Team and Hardlight and published by Sega. This game falls under the eighth generation video game consoles which started in 2013, the same year when Sega established a partnership with Nintendo that allowed them to develop and release their next three Sonic titles on Nintendo consoles; specifically, the 3DS, Wii U, and the Switch. This game also commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Sonic franchise and is scheduled for release in November 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo Switch.
The player can play as either Classic Sonic or Modern Sonic, which are two different versions of the titular character. This mechanic was first introduced in the previous installment in the series, Sonic Generations. Classic Sonic would feature 2D side-scrolling stages that resemble those from the old games, and Modern Sonic would feature 3D stages similar to those seen in Sonic Unleashed. Aside from this, Modern Sonic can also do homing attacks, while Classic Sonic now has a drop dash move that was first introduced in Sonic Mania.
The plot behind this game began when Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik was able to gain victory over Sonic with the help of an army of gigantic robots and a new power that he was able to acquire from Infinite, a powerful being that serves as Eggman’s new right-hand man. Together, they are able to employ a team of Sonic’s villains that include Shadow the Hedgehog, Metal Sonic, Chaos and Zavok. It is now up to Sonic and his friends to rise up and put a stop on Eggman and Infinite’s reign.

But the difference between this one and the previous games is that you will be required to do some upgrading of your characters before you can build up your Arts, and this can be gained through the auto-attacks. The Arts for this game has been divided into Driver Arts and Blade Arts, and executing any of these will fill up a Special gauge which, when full, lets you unleash a very powerful attack.
