2017 Pirelli Calendar Unveiled

Renowned German Photographer, Peter Lindbergh has unveiled his 2017 annual calendar for Pirelli. The project is called Emotional. This is the 44th edition of his creation and features some of the most well-known big screen actresses. A star studded calendar with 14 gorgeous actresses! And that’s not the interesting part. The interesting part is that all these beautiful women were shot without any traces of makeup and there was no digital touch up or photoshop used during the processing.

In the words of Peter Lindbergh, “The 2017 Calendar “conveys personality, sensitivity and the guts to be yourself”. The press launch took place in Paris where the German photographer unveiled his calendar and talked about the ideas and aim behind the calender shoot.

He said that he named his creation Emotional because the shoot was not about capturing perfection in the form of faces and bodies but it was about capturing sensitivity and emotions.

The celebrities featured on the calendar are Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara, Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlotte Rampling, Lea Seydoux, Uma Thurman, Alicia Vikander, Kate Winslet, Robin Wright, and Zhang Ziyi. And as a special guest the calendar featured Anastasia Ignatova a Political Theory professor at Moscow State University.

There is a special behind the scene video that has been shot that tells what these actresses felt while working on this calendar. Helen Mirren said that she instantly agreed for the shoot. For Uma Thurman the shoot was like “an interview, but with a camera”.

Lindbergh said, “As an artist, I feel I have a responsibility to free women from the idea of eternal youth and perfection. Society’s ideal of perfection is impossible to achieve”. The idea behind the shoot was to show women in a different and in the most natural way possible. Each and every photograph that has come out shows how beauty lies in rawness and emotion and expressions and not in makeup and touch up.

In this day and age where beauty has become an industry and the idea of beauty has become impossible to achieve, this photoshoot has an important message. Especially for girl and women who try very hard to fit into societal concept of beauty.

These shoots took place this year between May and June and a total of five different locations of Berlin, Los Angeles, New York, London and the French beach of Le Touquet, were selected. The calendar feature photographs shots in various locations of the cities mentioned above. The calendar will have 40 images in both portrait and ambient shots.
